The Beginning

Kairu Coffee began with a search for purpose. Our founder, drawn to the mountains of Alaska for snowboarding and the simplicity of Japanese culture, found themselves in a small Tokyo coffee shop that would change everything.

The shop owner, a meticulous roaster, demonstrated a level of dedication and passion that transcended the ordinary. Watching him manipulate roast profiles to enhance fruity notes, ensuring that origin characteristics shone through in every cup, sparked a vision: to bring this same dedication to coffee back home to Seattle.

Our Approach

We source the finest coffee beans from around the world, carefully selecting those with distinct flavors and characteristics. From the highlands of Ethiopia to the volcanic slopes of Guatemala, each origin tells its own story.

Our roasting process is inspired by that Tokyo roaster's meticulous approach. We honor the beans by bringing out their natural characteristics of fruity notes, floral aromas, chocolate undertones rather than masking them with heavy roasts.

The Name

Our product names (Pow, Stoke, Backcountry, Steeze, Gnar, Kicker, Tree Run) pay homage to our love of snowboarding and Alaska's pristine landscapes. They represent the joy we find in nature, the thrill of adventure, and the shared experience of community.

Kairu is more than coffee. It's a sanctuary where patrons can experience the true essence of specialty coffee, fostering connection, appreciation, and a sense of belonging.

  • "Coffee is about connection to the land where it's grown, to the hands that roast it, and to the moments we share over a cup."

Our Commitment

As an Independent, Alaskan-Native Owned business, we're committed to bringing you coffee that honors its origins while celebrating our unique heritage. Every cup is a bridge between cultures, a tribute to craftsmanship, and an invitation to slow down and savor the moment.
